My Three Weeks at Hambidge Center for the Arts

December 4th, 2011

I just got back from my art residency at Hambidge in Rabun Gap, Georgia. It was wonderful. For three weeks I had an amazing 60 ft long studio with a small bedroom, kitchen and bath. I hiked both alone and with some of the other residents on beautiful trails in the woods behind the houses. Dinners with seven other artists- writers and visual artists- were joyous and fascinating. Readings and studio visits once a week added another dimension to the experience. It was a time to be alone, shut out all of the noise of daily life, and find a joy in all aspects of life there. I worked, I read, I exercised, I came back feeling renewed. I love Hambidge and am so thankful for the time they gave me there.
