It’s the next best thing to seeing the exhibit live. Although the wire sculptures look different seen in 3-D it will give you a sense of the exhibit that’s up til Feb 17th. It can also be seen on Facebook if you go to my wall there.

Poetry reading was wonderful!
December 31st, 2009
It was amazing hearing Nicole Cooley and Maria Terrone read their poetry in the Queens College Art Center Gallery where Writing the Body is hanging. Seeing them standing in front of my work while reading from their poetry was very moving for me. I loved their poems and loved how there was a dialogue between the poems and the art work on display. It was wonderful getting to know their work in this setting.
Writing the Body exhibit held over thru February 17th
December 31st, 2009
My one-person show Writing the Body is being held over until February 17th at the Queens College Art Center. The exhibit has been getting a wonderful response and I’m very pleased that they’ve decided to extend the show. The combination of different media all talking to each other and creating a unified environment has been very gratifying for me. I’m pleased that some of my pieces I worked on at Ragdale and Hambidge Residencies this last year are up for viewing. The opportunity that the Art Center gave me to draw directly on the walls of their project room was invaluable. I was able to use pastel, charcoal, ink, wash and made figures sitting, falling thru space, disappearing into the wall. I learned a huge amount from doing this and it’s reflecting in my new work in the studio. My installation, Assisted Living, is installed in the Project Room and the dialogue created is very interesting. I love that the Art Center has been so open for experimentation and art making in their space. Suzanna Simor, Alexandra de Luise and Tara Mathison have been wonderful to work with. My thanks to NYFA and the Art League of LI thru the SOS program for their continued support as well.
Gallery hours- Thru January 27th, Mon-Fri, 1-5pm, Jan 28-Feb 17th, Mon-Thurs, 9am-8pm, Fri, 9am-5pm Contact me by email or phone if you’d like me to meet you at the gallery or arrange for a weekend visit in February possibly. I hope you get a chance to see the exhibit.
SOS Grant from NYFA!
November 5th, 2009
I love the New York Foundation for the Arts. They have been so supportive of my work. I just got an SOS grant (Special Opportunity Stipend) from them to help me make a booklet to go with my show, Writing the Body. They have continued to help fund my projects, from trips to Ragdale Residency in Lake Forest, IL and Hambidge Residency in Rabun Gap, GA to expenses for other shows where my work has been exhibited. It’s wonderful for artists to have this resource in NY that is user friendly and gives some financial assistance in bringing projects to life. (www.nyfa.org)
